Jung Ang’s Resort Spa on Taal Volcano, CANCELLED

Last night, Environment Secretary Angelo Reyes cancelled Jung Ang Interventure Corp.’s application for Environment Compliance Certificate (ECC) in building a resort spa on Taal Volcano, Batangas for failing to meet the deadline set by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to submit pertinent documents to warrant environmental compliance.
Reyes gave Jung Ang, last June 29, a final ultimatum to submit all proper clearances and permits, in building the resort spa, until the end of office hours yesterday (July 5). Failing to do so, Reyes cancelled the ECC of Jung Ang, with the effect of cancelling all other permits or certificates which the company has previously applied for.
Reyes asserts that the Korean firm failed to show transparency with their plans. Also, that the local government unit has the jurisdiction in proclaiming the Taal Volcano as off limits to business ventures.
Despite this, Reyes clarified the fact that the firm may reapply, if they wish, for a new ECC, if they are ready to show the pertinent documents needed by the DENR. “As far as the DENR is concerned, this project is through. But there is nothing to prevent anybody from applying anything,” Reyes said. But he added that such is unlikely to be approved as well.
